Get more features for your blog / website!
With Self-hosted WordPress, you get full access to all the features and tools you have within WordPress. Features that are otherwise only available with the expensive ($299) Business Plan, if using WordPress.com
So what is WordPress actually?
To make things as simple as possible, WordPress is really just a ‘Software‘ that makes having a blog/website very easy. It allows anyone, without any coding-knowledge, to quickly setup a site without needing any technical skills.
As you probably already know, in order to publish a post or change a design, all you need to do is click a few buttons. WordPress is the interface you use, to make this happen.
What is WordPress.com?
In order to use WordPress (the software) you need a webhost and WordPress.com is just the official webhost for WordPress. The software itself is actually 100% free and can be downloaded from WordPress.org – of course you would need a server first, to actually use it.
WordPress (the business) naturally needs to earn money, giving away the software for free doesn’t pay salaries. The way they do that is via WordPress.com in 2 different ways.
If you have a free blog on WordPress.com, they will display ads on your blog. This is of course fair, because your blog is completely free. In order to turn off the ads, you can either pay a small fee or upgrade to one of their paid plans, which is the second way they make money.
What most people using WordPress.com don’t know, is that the features that you have to pay for through their Premium or Business Plans, aren’t actually limited in the software itself. It’s strictly a way for them to charge you money, for using their host, a rather expensive one.
Even with the $99/year Premium plan, you still aren’t able to use custom designs or install plugins – they require the $299/year Business Plan if you want to do that.
What is Self-hosted WordPress?
Self-hosted WordPress simply means, taking the WordPress software and installing it on your own host of choice.
When doing so, you no longer have any of the forced limitations you get on WordPress.com. That means you are free to upload any custom designs, any plugins, you can sell products directly on your site and there are no plans you need to worry about. You get all the features from their WordPress.com Business Plan, but only have to pay for webhosting!
- Custom Domain Name
- Jetpack Essential Features
- Live Chat Support
- Upload Custom Designs
- Install Plugins
- Unlimited Storage Space
- Google Analytics Integration
- Monetize Your Site
- Start your own online store
- And a lot more..!
The best thing is that going Self-hosted only costs a fraction of what you pay on WordPress.com, in fact going Self-hosted doesn’t cost more than $3-5 per month – that’s even cheaper than their Premium plan.
How to get Self-hosted WordPress?
Getting Self-hosted is easy, all you need is to find a webhost, that offers WordPress and there are thousands out there. We can strongly recommend SiteGround, you can see why by Clicking here. Most hosts usually offer a “one-click” installer, so you literally only need to click on a button to get WordPress setup for you. The prices for hosting range between $3.95 – $9.95, but that’s still a lot cheaper than using the plans on WordPress.com.
If you already have a blog on WordPress.com you can also easily get all your content imported over, that of course includes all your posts, pages, media and followers!
